The Phi-TEC I is an adiabatic calorimeter that can be used to determine the heat evolved and pressure developed during an uncontrolled exothermic runaway reaction. It is the modern alternative to the classic "ARC" developed by Dow Chemicals and can be used for thermal hazard studies of liquids and powders, at a scale typically from 0.5 to 5g.

A version for testing small batteries and battery components is also provided which can be used to determine maximum safe temperature and by connecting to a cycler, the maximum discharge rate and maximum safe over voltage.
